San Simeon
San Simeon is a new song recorded by Bryan Ferry for his forthcoming album 'Frantic' due April 2002
San Simeon is one of the many songs that Bryan Ferry wrote and recorded while working with Eurthmics Dave Stewart in the late '90s. 'Frantic' has several songs from those sessions and others remain unreleased so far.
San Simeon is most renowned for the famous Hearst Castle. After his death in 1951, William Randolph Hearst's lavish residence became a state monument and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in California.
WHAT BRYAN SAYS:
'San Simeon' is another of the songs I wrote with Dave Stewart and I found this set of lyrics that I'd had from years ago when writing 'In Every Dream Home A Heartache' in 1973. And some of these lyrics I hadn't used were perfect for the song. In a way it's kind of a return to '... Dream Home' or an extension of it. This place, San Simeon, which was built by the American newspaper tycoon Hearst, was a fairytale castle built in California. Orson Wells made one of the great movies, 'Citizen Kane', which is about this great house he called Xanadu which is in the film. It's a good idea for a song when you wander into this ghostly castle which has all the memories of a glamorous past.
