Ladytron
Bryan Ferry had asked Brian Eno to make a sound for the opening to this sound something reminiscant of the Lunar Landing. A synthesized drone lies underneath an eerie oboe theme at the opening bars. This use of modern with classical instruments was revolutionary for its time. The song was performed on The Old Grey Whistle Test on what was one of Roxy's earliest TV appearances. The title's sci-fi influence is a feature of 60's pop art paintings.
The song has been played on all the tours up until 1979 and remained unplayed until Bryan Ferry's 1988 tour of which the Glasgow show recording appears on his 'The Archive And Live Collection' 1993. The song was aslo part of the set for the reunion tour in 2001.
Ladytron was recorded on The John Peel Sessions on BBC radio on 23rd June 1972.
It was rumoured that Bryan had rehearsed this for his 1999 tour segueing the song with Zamba, but he didn't play it at any of the shows.
A band called The Venus In Furs made up from Radiohead vocalist Thom Yorke, Suede guitarist Bernard Butler,Jon Greenwood, Clune, Paul Kimble & Andy Mackay recorded this song for the soundtrack to the film Velvet Goldmine.
