These Vintage Years - A Virtual Museum covering the work of Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry, Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay.

More Than This

More Than This was the first single to be released from Roxy Music's Avalon album. It reached number 6 in UK with the instrumental track India as the b-side. The USA single had the non album track Always Unknowing as the b-side. A 12" single was pressed but the version was the same as the single and album. A Brazilian promo by Polydor was pressed with Jean Michael Jarre on the b-side

The song was rehearsed for the Avalon tour but was dropped after the first show in Dublin. It was rehearsed for Bryan Ferry's As Time Goes By tour in 1999 but was never performed publicly. It was played at the first few shows on the reunion tour in 2001 in a lower key as Bryan found it more comfortable to sing in the new key. Bryan did a one off Piano/Vocal performance of More Than This at a show in Barcelona during the Frantic tour.

More Than This has been recorded by 10,000 Maniacs and Emmie did a dance version of the song in 1999 which reached the top 10 in the UK charts charting higher than Roxy's original version. Both Robyn Hitchcock & Glass Candle Grenade have released this song in their recorded reportoire. Charlie Hunter has a jazz version of More Than This as track 5 on the album, Songs From The Ananlog Playground. Lucy Kaplansky who appears on Bryan Ferry's 'Frantic' album also perfromed More Than This in her live set.

The computer game Grand Theft Auto also uses the song on the game as well as the soundtrack.
