Jealous Guy
Words & Music by John Lennon
Recorded as a tribute to John Lennon after his murder in December 1980. This was a song Bryan Ferry had always intended to record at some point and felt this was a fitting time to do so. It became Roxy Music's only UK number 1 on 10th March 1981, maintaining the top spot for 2 weeks. This was the second longest number 1 (after Bohemian Rhapsody) at the time of its release at a length of 6:10.
The song was added to the live set during the 1980/81 tour and has featured in every Roxy Music or Bryan Ferry tour since including Live Aid in 1985.
It was released as a 7" in most countries with a new song To Turn You On as the b-side. (Same Old Scene in Hungary) To Turn You On track was remixed and found its way on to the Avalon album a year later. Jealous Guy was released as a 12" in Germany and there were some one sided white label test pressings made in UK. In 1988 Virgin released some archive tracks as CD singles of several of their artists. Roxy were to be featured in this series with a release of Jealous Guy with South Downs & Lover appearing on CD for the first time. This was released as both a 3"CD and 5" CD
